Now perhaps not many will remember the cold war between the USA and the USSR…well that is not important now, what is important is the struggle to get out of bed in our chilly winter and then to top it off having a head cold as well. With the endless struggle to keep the fat of my body this double dose of cold is like being a Brazilian football/soccer supporter at the FIFA World Cup – you just can’t win!

Watching the Germans beat Brazil 7-1 in Austria with a group of Germans – late night and lots of Weiss Bier
Having successfully negated not to eat too much and consume Weiss Bier in moderation in Austria, I returned home to South African cuisine and the family that always over caters and of course the always good South African food, to throw my diet (well trying to eat right and less) out the window. It now feels that I have let myself down as I know I have gained a kilogram or so – but it was great to see the family again, visit my favourite Biltong shop (King’s Meat) and have a proper braai with my friend Hugo and meet, Michelle his fiancé, but now the cold war and I need to train = depression. Come on summer!
Now some might say that I must start Banting, you know the #LCHF (Low Carb High Fat) thing, but it just sounds like too much effort. Don’t let my Banting friends here that… The goal is to conquer the cold and get back on the bike and in the gym and watch those carbs, all in moderation I say.
My trip to KTM is Austria was successful and we also managed to get in some great riding in and around the beautiful See (lake) area we stayed in.
It’s good to get out of one’s comfort zone and arriving back in Johannesburg and the cold surely did that, especially if you only packed clothes for the European summer, alas the cold from not being able to fend off the Polar bears in Gauteng, they are quite devious you know, sneak up on you and wham bam cold we am.
Focus is required as the next challenge of Die Burger Mountain Bike Challenge is around the corner and in between I have to fight of the temptations of a games night and Christmas in July. Fight the battles and focus on the end goal, fitness and health (with less body fat).
Don’t train when you are sick! Not worth it. And when you visit the lake areas in Austria be sure to book Hotel Post am Attersee.
PS: Good news for the Ride2Nowhere is the Lords Wines Prize category by becoming a Lords Wine Legend – I’m in!
